2017-2018 Volunteer of the Year
Junior League of Portland
Ashley Eil is a Southern transplant originally from North Carolina who currently resides in Portland, Oregon with her husband, three-year-old son, one-year-old daughter, and miniature schnauzer. When not serving the many roles of project manager, wonder woman, master Jedi, financial planner, and gourmet chef at home, Ashley navigates the delicate balance between work and family as a very active volunteer with the Junior League of Portland. Ashley is passionate about making change in the community through volunteerism and has served in a variety of roles. She loves traveling and charming people with her Southern accent no matter where she goes. After her children are old enough to make their own sandwiches, she plans to further a career in non-profit serving areas of the community most under-represented. In the meantime, she will hone her ninja skills when she relocates with her family to NYC this summer. Ashley has a B.A. in Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A physical, emotional, and sexual abuse survivor, associated with her difficult childhood, Ashley hopes to serve as a source of inspiration, and provide useful insight on the adverse effects of poverty by sharing her story. She is an example of how that adversity can be used as a source for positive change. She hopes that her experiences will help guide others to understand the power of relationship to help change the course of a life.
